This week I was with medical assistants and cardiac rehab. It was bittersweet because it was the last full week, but I made the best of it. The had a Thanksgiving lunch and I was lucky enough to be offered some, so that was nice. I also finally took someone's blood pressure. I was very proud of myself because even though it was not 100% accurate, I finally got over my fear and tried.
I took some pictures with my favorite people at Beaumont, Alyssa and Shannon. They wanted to take one with a snapchat filter, so we did. I have learned so much from these two in such a short amount of time. Cardiac Rehab is very interesting to me. I am going to miss them so much but they told me I can come back whenever I want. I am so thankful that I had this experience and was able to learn from them. This week I got to be on Dr. Gibson’s side again. I love it over there. The girls are super nice and I got to learn a lot about OBGYN, which is very interesting to me. Also, I got to be in Cardiac Reha again. I love talking to all of the patients. One of them told me their story of why they have heart problems and I really enjoyed listening. This week was full of laughs and learning.
I received my sticky note from Alyssa, who is from Cardiac Rehab. Alyssa has been extremely friendly from the start and has taught me a lot. My favorite part of the note was when she said I make patients feel comfortable. In the beginning, I was nervous to be there and would be quiet. So it is nice to know that now I seem comfortable and I am able to make those around me comfortable. This was a really good week. We finally got to shadow Dr. Gibson, who is an OBGYN. It was super cool to experience a different side of Beaumont. I also got to be with Cardiac Rehab again. They taught me an easier way to take blood pressure and I am so happy they showed me that way. One of the Cardiac Rehab girls invited me to go to listen to a Doctor lecture, which I thought was really nice and I am definitely going if I can. Dear Mrs. Nancy Grace: Thank you for allowing me to job shadow at Beaumont Family Medicine. It is not everyday a student in high school is able to get an inside look on their future. Throughout my high school years, I would have never guessed that I would be given this amazing opportunity. This experience has been nothing but great. You are very accommodating to my schedule, and I appreciate that. Thank you for taking the time to help me learn. You make sure I am able to rotate throughout different areas of Beaumont, and it has helped me learn a lot. My knowledge has increased substantially in just a few months, and that is all because of you. I have been able to do a lot of hands-on tasks instead of just watching, and I really enjoy that. I love how there are always new challenges waiting for me to solve everyday. Again, I appreciate you giving me this once in a lifetime opportunity and for everything you do. Thank you for giving me exposure to my future and teaching me things I would never learn in a classroom. Thank you very much for being so kind and welcoming. My experience at Beaumont Family Medicine has been extremely pleasurable due to you and your staff. Sincerely, Lauren Malicsi 12th Grade This week was good. I was able to use the computer with patients, which was scary but fun. I was nervous to use it, but I think I got the hang of it pretty fast. I also got to be with the infusion center again. I have not been there in a couple weeks so it was nice to be back. I called patients back, took vitals, and cleaned areas. This week I also got to learn how the prepare injections. It is harder than it looks. Overall, this was a very interesting week.
This week I received my evaluation sheet back. I got ranked excellent three times, and average four times. I agree that my attitude is excellent. I always try to keep a smile on my face and act very professional. I also think my personality traits are good. I love the people I work with and get along with everyone super well. As for improvement, I do need to work on being initiative. Sometimes I am not fully confident and will wait until I am asked to do something. I could also improve on my quality of work. There are still a few things I am not comfortable doing by myself. I hope to improve on this things very soon. I had a good week. I shadowed Cardiac Rehab again and one of the girls helped me with manual blood pressure. After she did I felt more comfortable, but I still need to practice. I also go to experience what it is like when Beaumont gets evaluated. I helped clean rooms and make sure everything was perfect, it was intense. I also started calling patients back and taking vitals by myself.
I thought the Ellen video was hilarious, but also very true. I am a huge procrastinator. For some reason, I always end up waiting last minute to do my homework. To help this problem, I set reminders on my phone. Also, I will tell myself I cannot touch my phone until I finish my homework. It does not always work, but I will end up doing my homework. My biggest flaw would have to be procrastination. It is a bad habit of mine that I am working on everyday. This week I spent majority of my time in the Infusion Center again. I am getting super comfortable in that area. I used to be scared of taking vitals, but now I feel like I could do it with my eyes closed. One of my favorite parts is getting to talk to patients. I am starting to remember faces. I talked to a patient who used to be a elevator attendant and she told me all about how it was the best job ever. She was really funny.
The picture below is one of the rooms in the infusion center. It is a nice room, but if it were up to me, I would make some changes. The TV would be bigger, and there would be gaming systems for the patients. I would have bigger chairs because sometimes patients are sitting there for hours and I feel like the chairs provided are a little small. I would also paint the walls a nicer color to set a happy tone. This week I spent my time with the Infusion center. I really enjoy it over there. All of the nurses are super nice to me. I learned how to properly clean patient rooms and take blood pressure and temperature. I also go to call patients back and record their weight. I find it really cool to watch how people get infused with different medications. It was hard for me to choose a quote because they were all relatable in some way. I had to go with Dory from Finding Nemo with her famous saying “Just Keep Swimming”. I chose this quote because I have been saying that since I was little. It reminds me to always keep pushing no matter what. Whether I am in the classroom or on the court, I just need to keep swimming. This week was good. I shadowed a RN again and got to watch her make phone calls to patients. I also got to shadow Medical Assistants and got to witness a patient find out she is pregnant. I got to take temperatures and pulses of patients, which was my first physical contact with any patients. Overall, this week was interesting. If I won the Powerball jackpot, I would freak out. First, I would pay off my parents house and give money to all of my family members. After that, I would buy myself a nice house with an indoor basketball court in the basement and a super big pool. I would donate money to different charities. I would still work because If I just sat at home all day with money, it would all be gone. I would need to keep working to stay sane. If I could buy anything right now, it would be a new phone. My phone needs an upgrade bad. This week was interesting. On Monday I got to shadow a Medical Assistant. I was a little nervous because it was my first time having any contact with a patient. I got to watch a little girl get two shots which was sad..I hate shots. I also shadowed Medical Records which was cool because I did a project on that last year. My favorite part was when I shadowed Cardiac Rehab. It was super fun getting to see how people strengthen their heart.
I can relate to this article because I hate being late. Being continuously late would cause me to lose my position. Everyday I try to be at Beaumont at least 5 minutes early. Showing up on time is super important to me If I am always on time, I am seen as a responsible person. If I was always late, I would look like I don’t care and am not responsible. |
