This week I read an article by Mitch Albom about Mike Ilitch. Mike Illitch was a Detroit icon who just recently passes away.He did way more than own the Red Wings, Tigers and Little Caesars Pizza. He genuinely cared for his sports teams and the city of Detroit. Because of Ilitch, Detroit is lit up by Comerica Park, The Joe, and Hockey Town Cafe. Investing in the pizza business was not the bets idea back in the 1950's, but Mike had a feeling to follow through with it, and obviously paid off. At the end of the day, Mike Ilitch was a family man who became rich. He is selfless, and Detroit is going to miss him very much.
This weeks article was called "15 Qualities of Mentally Tough People". This article explains 15 qualities that are typically found in mentally tough people. After reading through the qualities, I noticed some that apply to me, and some that I could work on. I definitely need to work on getting enough sleep. I tend to go to bed super late and then have to wake up early, and it is not fun. Also, I need to work on being more positive. Although I try to be positive all the time, I do find myself thinking negatively. However, I am good at forgiving without receiving an apology. I try to always look at both sides of the situation when it comes to getting into fights or arguments and forgive instead of holding a grudge.
In the article "Rohn: A Good Life Contains These 6 Essentials" by Jim Rohn, I can relate to many of the points. "Good friends" really relates to me because I believe I have found a great group of friends. He mentions how it is important to have real and casual friends. I agree with that because not everyone will stick around, but it is important to keep the ones who do. i also relate to "productivity" because it is hard to participate in life when you are not productive. I try to be productive everyday so I have time to do the things that are fun to me.
Jim Rohn was born in Washington. He worked on a farm in Idaho and grew up there. Jim grew up to be a author, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker. Zig Ziglar's talk was very inspiring. One of the things that really stood out to me was having gratitude. It is important to take pride in the things you do and enjoy them. I always say how I do not want to go to school, but at the end of the day, I am lucky to go to Lake Shore. Also he says how people are negative and if you want to help others, you need to help yourself first. I find myself being negative at times, but I try to remain positive.
Dale Carnegie's quote made me think of some points in my life. Some things that I had to do this week was study for my Anatomy test and make sure I was caught up with all of my work in Personal Finance. Dale says how you have to give your best to the small jobs, and he is right. Doing class work does not seem like a big task, but it adds up if it is not done and it kills you in the long run. If I stay up to task on my class work, then I am likely to be on top of bigger things. In the next couple of months, I need to finish applying to colleges and make my decision on where I want to go, which is scary but I can overcome it. Dale Carnegie was an American writer and lecturer. He was the developer of famous courses of self-improvement.
Looking at the heart, a lot of the words relate to my life. As for the love side, passion, memories, and happiness relate to me. I have a lot of passion for basketball, I am making many good memories my senior year, and my friends and family bring me a lot of happiness. As for the hate side, fear and doubt relate to me. Sometimes I fear about to future and growing up. As for doubt, a lot of people doubt my basketball team and our ability, but I am confident we are getting better and will be able to prove ourselves.
Les Brown's speech was very inspiring and made me think of the goals I have set for myself. For short-term goals, I want to finish senior year with all A's and stay on top of my hybrid work. I also want to keep positive when it comes to basketball. For long-term, my goals are to attended a good university and maintain good grades. Another goal is to become a nurse and be financially stable and independent person. I like the point he proves where most people fail because they aim too low. I never thought of it that way, but I agree.
I cannot wait for break. I would have to say my favorite part is getting to sleep in and being stress free. On Christmas Eve, I go to my moms side of the family for a little and then we leave and go to my dads side. I wish I could stay a long time at both sides, but it's nice to get to see everyone on one night. One of my favorite memories over break was when I went to Chicago. It is so pretty there and I am happy that I got to experience it during Christmas time.
The quote I chose from Mr. Dalys blog site is, "If what you're working for really matters, you'll give it all you've got." I chose this quote because it is short and sweet, but it gets the point across. If you are working for something important, you have to put 100% into it or else the results will not be what you expect them to be. I always put 100% in something I really want. For this winter term, I want to do my best not only in the classroom, but on the basketball court. I am going to work really hard to stay on top of all my assignments, since I have three hybrids. I am working for all A's this trimester. I am also working to have a good last season of basketball. Even if our record is not the best, I want to grow as a player. By the end of the season I want my free throw precentage to be higher and my ball handling skills to improve, and I am going to give it all I got.
